Rupert Goetz completed an internship at Daimler-Benz AG (Stuttgart, Germany) and other internationally active entities. Thereafter, he studied at the Technical University of Munich where he received his diploma in mechanical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) in 1958 and a degree in economics (Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing.) in 1960.

He was subsequently employed as a manufacturing and factory planning engineer (overseas operations) at Siemens AG from 1960 to 1964. Rupert Goetz was engaged as a trainee patent attorney at WUESTHOFF & WUESTHOFF during the years 1964 to 1967, following which he passed the qualifying examination. He was the chairman of the Working Committee on Patent Law of UNION (Union of European Practitioners in Industrial Property) for several years; thereafter he served as President of UNION. He has presented numerous papers related to patent law before both national and international organizations. Rupert Goetz's comprehensive experience covers all aspects of Intellectual Property protection, litigation and licensing; and he has often been leading counsel in infringement suits before courts in both Germany and abroad.
