Elena Karlukova joined Wuesthoff & Wuesthoff in 2023 as a patent attorney trainee and a technical expert, supporting the life science team in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. Her expertise includes biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague and a Master's degree in Biophysical Chemistry with distinction from Charles University, including a semester at University College London through an Erasmus scholarship. Elena gained practical experience at the Czech Academy of Sciences in protein biochemistry and antiviral research, focusing her Bachelor's and Master's theses on influenza virus proteins and antiviral drug resistance.
In 2018, Elena moved to Munich to obtain her doctoral degree at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry researching the epigenetic regulatory protein complexes involved in transcriptional repression.
