Rainer Gunzelmann is a German Patent Attorney, European Patent & Trademark Attorney, and an authorized representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). He studied Electrical and Information Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, graduating with a Diplom in 1998. After his studies, he worked for several months as a software engineer at MAN Technologie AG. In addition, in 2024 he earned an MBA in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Cumbria.

Since 1998, Rainer Gunzelmann has worked in intellectual property law. He completed his training to become a patent attorney at a renowned Munich patent law firm and gained additional experience in U.S. patent law while working with a U.S. law firm. Before joining WUESTHOFF & WUESTHOFF in 2007, he was employed by Siemens AG. There, he was initially responsible for the patent portfolio of an R&D site in the field of mobile communications. He subsequently built up Siemens AG’s patent licensing center in Beijing during a three-year posting. As Head of Licensing & Transactions Asia, he led international patent infringement and licensing projects and was responsible for enforcing IP rights-particularly standard-essential patents (SEPs)-in Europe and Asia.

Rainer Gunzelmann advises on all aspects of obtaining, defending, and enforcing patents and utility models in Germany, Europe, and worldwide. His technical focus areas include telecommunications, video and audio coding, computer hardware and software, artificial intelligence (AI), consumer electronics, medical technology, image processing, display technology, environmental and energy technologies, and automotive engineering.
